Sports News Review – Without upsets in Champions League

Sports news review starts with Champions League, where first leg matches in the third qualifying round were played tonight.

We saw no mayor upsets, but two favored teams failed to win at home – the matches between Sparta Prague and Steaua Bucuresti and Ajax and PAOK ended as a draw, 1:1. In other matches, BATE defeated Dundalk by 1:0, Ludogorets and Crvena zvezda played 2:2, Partizani Tirana lost at home against Salzburg by 1:0, Plzen and Qarabag played 0:0, Rostov and Anderlecht played 2:2, Dinamo Zagreb defeated Dinamo Tbilisi by 2:0 and Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Young Boys by 2:0.

In International Champions Cup one match was played today, Juventus defeated Tottenham by 2:1. Dybala and Benatia scored for Italian champions, while Lamela was the only scorer for Tottenham.

Per Mertesacker got injured and he will be out for five months! The season hasn’t even started and Arsenal, which traditionally has many problems with injuries, was left with only Chambers on centre back position, since Mertesacker, Koscielny and Gabriel are all sidelined with injuries.

Gabriel Barbosa, one of the hottest prospects in the football world currently, will reportedly move to Juventus. Santos have accepted a 20 million euro offer from the Italian champions and it is up to Gabriel if he will accept the transfer or not.

Kalidou Koulibaly, the Senegalese centre back who plays for Napoli, will reportedly transfer to either Everton or Chelsea.

Luciano Vietto, who came to Atletico Madrid as a huge reinforcement last summer, will join Sevilla on loan, after failing to establish himself as a first team regular in Madrid.

Roger Federer announced today that he will miss the remainder of 2016 in a quest to heal his knee injury completely.

On ATP Masters tournament in Toronto 14 matches were played late last night and today. Denis Shapovalov, a teenager from Canada who recently won the Wimbledon juniors title, made the biggest upset, by defeating Nick Kyrgios by 2:1. In other matches, Tomic defeated Gonzalez by 2:0, Isner defeated Sela by 2:1, Sock defeated Kudla by 2:0, Querrey defeated Dancevic by 2:0, Lu defeated Zverev by 2:0, Millman retired against Donaldson in second set, Novikov defeated Delbonis by 2:0, Stepanek defeated Paire by 2:0, Ram defeated Gulbis by 2:0, Pouille defeated Gomez by 2:1, Monfils defeated Sousa by 2:0, Young defeated Dolgopolov by 2:0 and Berdych defeated Coric by 2:1.

On WTA tournament in Montreal 10 matches were played late last night and today. Lucic-Baroni defeated Hibino by 2:0, Svitolina defeated Brady by 2:0, Stosur defeated Watson by 2:0, Broady defeated Puig by 2:1, Giorgi defeated Stephens by 2:0, Kvitova defeated Linette by 2:0, Petkovic defeated Cornet by 2:0, Kasatkina defeated Doi by 2:1, Keys defeated Vesnina by 2:0 and Pliskova defeated Bondarenko by 2:1.

Tyron Lou signed a new, improved contract with NBA champions Cleveland Cavaliers. Lou should lead the Cavs in the next five years and he should receive 35 million dollars for doing that.
