Manchester United officially confirmed the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan on a four-year contract. After Dortmund announced on Saturday that agreement for Armenia international to move to Old Trafford had been reached, United have today announced his arrival for an undisclosed fee. Mkhitaryan was voted the Bundesliga Players’ Player of the Season for 2015-16 after scoring 11 goals and registering 15 assists.
Marcelo Bielsa has been officially confirmed as the new head coach of Lazio. Bielsa has been without a job since resigning from Marseille at the start of the 2015-16 season. Lazio have selected Bielsa as a permanent replacement for Stefano Pioli, who was sacked after a 4-1 loss to Roma in April.
Juventus have confirmed today that Alvaro Morata will definitely return to Real Madrid after the European champions activated the buy-back clause in his contract. The Serie A champions confirmed Real have activated the 32 million Euros clause in his contract.
Roger Federer saved two match points against Marin Cilic in today’s quarterfinals at ATP Grand Slam at Wimbledon and won 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. Third seed Federer will play against Milos Raonic in the semifinals after sixth seed beat Sam Querrey 6-4, 7-5, 5-7, 6-4. Other semifinals pair will be Thomas Berdych who beat Lucas Pouille 7-6, 6-3, 6-2 and Andy Murray who struggled to beat Jo-Wilfred Tsonga 7-6, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1.
Basketball qualification tournaments in Philippines, Serbia and Italy which are played for Olympic Games in Rio continued today with third day matches. In Belgrade, Serbia beat Angola 83-70 while Czech Republic defeated Japan 87-71. Semifinal pairs are Serbia – Czech Republic and Latvia – Puerto Rico. At Manila Canada defeated Senegal 58-55 while New Zealand beat Philippines 89-80. In Turin, Greece beat Mexico 86-70 while Croatia defeated Tunisia 72-52. Croatia and Greece will meet in the semifinals while hosts Italy will play against Mexico in the other match.
Greg Van Avermaet of BMC Racing Team won today’s Stage 5 of Tour de France from Limoges to Le Lioran and also took on yellow jersey after he finished 23 minutes and 45 seconds ahead of previous leader Peter Sagan.
