Sports News Review – Nadal victorious at US Open

Sports news review starts with US Open, where Rafael Nadal started his journey with a victory over Denis Istomin. He had some problems in the second set, where Istomin managed to break his serve once, but the second break in 10th game was the key not only to the second set, yet in the whole match and in the third set everything was easier for the Spaniard.

We also saw a major upset in the match between Gasquet and Edmund, which the young Brit won in straight sets! Tiafoe was also near to defeating Isner, he led by 2:0, but the more experienced American turned the things around and won the match in five sets.

In other matches, Darcis defeated Thompson by 3:2, Kuznetsov defeated Bellucci by 3:1, Pella defeated Fratangelo by 3:0, Escobedo eliminated Lacko after the Slovakian retired in the fifth set because of injury, Cilic defeated Silva by 3:0, Stakhovsky defeated Elias by 3:2, Youzhny defeated Klizan by 3:0, Ramos defeated Benneteau by 3:2, Almagro defeated Fucsovics by 3:0, Seppi defeated Robert by 3:1 and Monfils defeated Muller by 3:0.

At women’s tournament we didn’t see a major upset: Witthoeft defeated Doi by 2:0, Bencic defeated Crawford by 2:1, Buyukakcay defeated Falconi by 2:0, Kvitova defeated Ostapenko by 2:0, Petkovic defeated Kucova by 2:0, Wozniacki defeated Townsend by 2:1, Vinci defeated Friedsam by 2:0, Kerber eliminated Hercog after she retired in the second set, Osaka defeated Vandeweghe by 2:1, which was the biggest surprise of the day, Rogers defeated Errani by 2:0, Lucic-Baroni defeated Cornet by 2:0, McHale defeated Barthel by 2:0, Kuznetsova defeated Schiavone by 2:0, Bellis defeated Golubic by 2:0, Putintseva defeated Lisicki by 2:0, Duan defeated Sakkari by 2:1, Muguruza defeated Mertens by 2:1, Sevastova defeated Schmiedlova by 2:0 and Wang defeated Van Uytvank by 2:0.

Several interesting football transfers were completed today. Paco Alcacer, former Valencia striker and Spanish international signed a contract with Spanish champion Barcelona. He will cost the Catalan giants 30 million euro. Although he was first team regular in Valencia, he will only be a backup for Barca’s mighty trio Suarez-Messi-Neymar. Munir El Haddadi will be loaned out to Valencia until the end of the season as a part of the deal.

Nacer Chadli has been transferred from Tottenham to WBA for around 13 million pounds.

Sofiane Boufal has been transferred from Lille to Southampton in a club record breaking deal.
