We start sports news review with football as Lionel Messi scored his 55th international goal to become Argentina all-time leading scorer and help his team reach Copa America finals. Argentina crushed hosts the United States 4-0 in front of over 70,000 spectators.
Messi scored his historic goal buy sending a sensational free kick past Brad Guzan in 32nd minute to put Argentina 2-0 ahead. Argentina grabbed the lead through Ezequiel Lavezzi in third minute and never looked back. Gonzalo Higuain added two more scores in the second half to make it 4-0. Argentina will face the winner of other semifinals between Chile and Colombia.
The match between Portugal and Hungary finally gave the fans at EURO 2016 the goal fest they were waiting for. The match in Group F ended 3-3 with Cristiano Ronaldo setting up first and scoring other two Portugal goals. Hungary won the group with five points ahead of Iceland who beat Austria 2-1 with a 94th minute goal. That goal sent Iceland on to England in the Last 16 round while third-placed Portugal will face Croatia.
In the final third round of Group E at EURO 2016 Italy, who secured the first place prior to their match against Republic of Ireland, fielded a lot of substitutes and lost to Ireland 1-0 with Robbie Brady scoring in 84th minute. In the other match of this group Belgium beat Sweden 1-0 through Radja Nainggolan’s goal in 85th minute. In the knockout stage Italy will face Spain in the rematch of previous European championship final while Belgium will face Group F winner Hungary. Republic of Ireland will go on to face hosts France in the Last 16 round.
Roma have completed transfers of Sadiq Umar and Abdullahi Nura from Serie B club Spezia for a total fee of 5 million Euros. Both players have signed four-year contracts after impressing coach Luciano Spalleti while on loan at Roma last season.
Real Madrid have defended their ACB league champion’s title after they beat Barcelona 91-84 in Game 4 of the playoff finals. Real won the series 3-1 after losing the first game in the series.
The Chicago Bulls have agreed to trade point guard Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks while Jose Calderon, Jerian Grant and Robin Lopez will go in the other direction. The Knicks will also receive the Chicago’s 2017 second round draft pick and Justin Holiday. The former NBA MVP has been afflicted by several knee injuries over the last few seasons and he’ll be entering the final year of his contract.
