Sports News Review – Leicester City still on top of Premier League

After drawing 1-1 away at Aston Villa, Leicester City are still on top of Premier League after 22 rounds. Shinji Okazaki gave visitors the lead in 28th and minutes later Riyiad Mahrez missed the penalty for the Foxes. Rudy Gestede set the final score in 75th. Chelsea and Everton played one of the best matches this year in Premier League after 3-3 goal fest. First half was goalless but then own goal from John Terry in 50th and a score by Kevin Mirallas in 56th and Everton was two goals up, however two minute salvo from Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas in 64th and 66th leveled the match. Everton was on brink of the victory after Ramiro Funes Mori scored in the 90th but a goal from John Terry in 97th minute from a clear offside ended the match in a draw. In other matches in Premier League today, Tottenham beat Sunderland 4-1, Bournemouth defeated Norwich 3-0, Manchester City crushed Crystal Palace 4-0, Newcastle beat West Ham 2-1 and Southampton dismissed West Bromwich Albion 3-0.

Inter failed to win again in their title race in Italian Serie A as they drew 1-1 away at Atalanta. Torino beat Frosinone 4-2 while leaders Napoli defeated Sassuolo 3-1.

Sevilla is continuing its climb towards the place which leads to the Champions League from Spanish Primera Division as they beat Malaga 2-1. Celta remained fifth after 4-3 win over Levante while Villareal and Betis drew 0-0.

Groups C and D kicked off at Men’s European Handball Championship in Poland. In Group C Spain defeated Germany 32-29 while Sweden beat Slovenia 23-21. In Group D Hungary beat Montenegro 32-27 and Denmark defeated Russia 31-25.

Knockout stage started at 32nd European Water polo Championship in Belgrade where hosts Serbia beat Slovakia 10-5, much harder than expected. Serbia go on to face winner of tomorrow’s match between Russia and Germany. In other playoff matches today Spain beat Malta 14-3, Montenegro defeated France 11-6 while Croatia beat Netherlands 16-9.

Alize Cornet defeated Eugenie Bouchard 6-1, 6-2 in the finals of WTA tournament in Hobart. It was Cornet’s fifth WTA title and first since April 2014.

Roberto Bautista Agut won the ATP 250 tournament in Auckland after Jack Sock retired  in the second set due to flu after losing the first one 6-1.

Viktor Troicki has defended his title at ATP 250 tournament in Sydney after he beat Grigor Dimitrov 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 in the finals today. The Serbian won his third ATP Tour title.

Kyrie Irving led Cleveland Cavaliers to a 91-77 win over Houston Rockets with 23 points while LeBron James added 19 for the Cavaliers who are now heading home after six-game road trip in the West.
