Sports news review starts with ATP Masters tournament in Toronto, where Novak Djokovic easily defeated Radek Stepanek by 6:2, 6:4 and qualified for the quarterfinals.
Djokovic was much better in the first set if we take a look at the result, but in almost every game we saw a great battle. In the second set though several points which went to Djokovic in the first went to Stepanek, and Czech tennis player broke Djokovic’s service first. However, in the fourth game Djokovic broke back and in the tenth game broke Stepanek’s serve for the second time in this set and closed the match.
Djokovic will play against Tomas Berdych in the quarterfinals, who defeated Ryan Harrison in three sets. Milos Raonic didn’t have many problems against Jared Donaldson, he cruised to 6:2, 6:3 victory, while Dimitrov, after defeating Karlovic in straight sets late last night, lost against Nishikori in three sets. We expected an interesting match between Wawrinka and Anderson, but the Swiss won comfortably by 6:1, 6:3 and he will face Kei Nishikori in the semifinals.
On WTA tournament in Montreal six matches were played late last night and today. In the last match of the day yesterday Kerber defeated Svitolina in straight sets and she did the same against Kasatkina in the last match of the day today. Keys defeated Venus Williams in all-American clash in very interesting three sets, Konta defeated Lepchenko by 2:0, Kucova defeated Bouchard by 2:1 and Halep defeated Kuznetsova by 2:1.
Several friendly football matches were played today. Atletico Madrid defeated Tottenham by 1:0, the only goal was scored by Godin. Arsenal defeated MLS all stars by 2:1, Campbell and Akpom were the scorers for the winning side, while Didier Drogba scored the only goal for MLS all stars.
