Today’s sports news review starts with Bundesliga, where Bayern Munich defended their throne, by defeating Ingolstadt on the road by 2:1. Lewandowski scored twice for the winning team, while the only goal for the hosts was scored by Hartmann. Borussia Dortmund suffered a defeat in Frankfurt against Eintracht by 1:0. That was third consecutive victory for Frankfurt and they are now above the relegation mark. On the other hand, Stuttgart was defeated again, this time at home against Mainz by 3:1, although they had an early lead. They are on a brink of relegation after this defeat. In the derby, Borussia Moenchengladbach defeated Bayer Leverkusen by 2:1 and secured the position number four one round before the end. In other matches, Cologne and Werder Bremen played 0:0, Hamburg lost at home against Wolfsburg by 1:0, Hannover defeated Hoffenheim by 1:0, Hertha lost at home against Darmstadt by 2:1 and Schalke and Augsburg played 1:1.
In Premier League seven matches were played today. Sunderland defeated Chelsea by 3:2, after losing by 1:0 and 2:1. Defoe was the home side hero after scoring the winning goal, while Chelsea’s captain John Terry, was given a red card and he infamously finished his career at the London club. Sunderland is now in a very good position, since Norwich was defeated at home against Manchester United by 1:0 (the only goal was scored by Mata) and Newcastle played only 0:0 in away match against Aston Villa. Sunderland is now one point in front of Newcastle, and they also have one game less than their fierce rivals. In other matches, Bournemouth and West Bromvich played 1:1, Crystal Palace defeated Stoke by 2:1, Swansea surprised West Ham on the road and defeated them by 4:1, while newly crowned champions Leicester defeated Everton by 3:1, with another excellent performance from Vardy, who scored two goals after the suspension.
In Italian Serie A two matches were played today. Inter defeated Napoli by 2:1 and Bologna lost at home against Milan by 1:0.
In NBA playoffs two matches were played late last night. Atlanta Hawks lost at home against Cleveland Cavaliers by 121:108, while Oklahoma City Thunder lost at home against San Antonio Spurs by 100:96. Cleveland again shot perfectly for three points, after 25 in game two they scored 21 in game three! Frye scored 27 points, while James scored 24 for the Cavs, while Teague led Atlanta with 19 points. Cleveland now leads by 3:0 and they need only one more victory to eliminate Atlanta. Lenard lead Spurs with 31 points, while Westbrook scored also 31 for the Thunder, but he shot only 10 out of 31! San Antonio now leads the series with 2:1.
On ATP Masters in Madrid both semifinals were played today. Andy Murray defeated Rafael Nadal after a big fight by 2:0, while Novak Djokovic, also after a big battle, which was decided by only a few key points, defeated Kei Nishikori by 2:0.
On WTA Madrid the final was played today, Halep defeated Cibulkova by 2:0.
