Le’Veon Bell facing four-game suspension

Pittsburgh Steelers are in big trouble, because Le’Veon Bell is facing four-game suspension. Roger Goodell will be suspended the running back because he missed a doping test. NFL has not issued an official statement about the suspension, as the player appealed on the suspension.

Le’Veon Bell

Since he arrived in the NFL, Le’Veon Bell has drawn the attention to himself with fantastic parties. Talented running back very easily finds and uses all the shortcomings of the opposing defense. Light on his feet and very successful at catching balls from backfield, Bell has become a very important part of the Steelers. However, injuries and suspensions damaging impression he leaves on the ground. Bell missed start of the last year due to the suspension. The league suspended him for four games for marijuana use, but after an appeal the suspension reduced to two. Now, he is once again facing suspension for drug related problem, and it is unlikely that Roger Goodell is going to give him benefit of the doubt.

Pittsburgh Steelers

One of most influential franchises in the league is in a very difficult situation. Pittsburgh Steelers have already lost Martavis Bryant for a whole season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. If Le’Veon Bell gets suspended for four weeks offense of the franchises from Pennsylvania will be in trouble. The only real threat to the opposing defense will be Antonio Braun, and he cannot do everything alone. In the absence of starting running back, Steelers will rely on DeAngelo Williams, veteran who last season played very well. However, the question is can Williams, who turn 33 in April, play the whole game at the level Steelers need. In the first four weeks the Steelers will play against Washington Redskins, Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.

This suspension came in a bed time for Le’Veon Bell, as he is expecting a new contract. During his first three NFL seasons Bell played 35 games and had 2777 rushing yards, with 19 touchdowns. He was very active in the passing attack, with 1,389 yards and 3 touchdowns. The new season will be last that Bell will play under his rookie contract. He has repeatedly said he wants to become the highest-paid running back in the league. Bell even sang in the hip hop song saying he wants 15 million dollars per year. However, after the new problems with the league, it is unlikely that Pittsburgh Steelers will want to invest so much in a player who is prone to suspensions.

There are still hopes that Bell will be on a field at the start of the new season. Good thing for him is that he is getting suspended for a missed drug test, not a failed one. However, given the NFL strict policy about drag tests and the mistakes Bell already made, there is a much bigger chance that the suspension will stay.
