David Lee reinforced San Antonio Spurs

Experienced center signed a two-year contract

Experienced center David Lee, which this summer became a free agent, has reinforced San Antonio Spurs, with which signed a two-year contract. Lee during the next two seasons will earn 3.2 million dollars. The first year of the contract is guaranteed, and the following is a player option. After the (un)expected retirement of Tim Duncan, Spurs were forced to seek another tall player to reinforce the center line, and Lee was selected as an experienced and not too expensive player.

Besides Duncan, the Spurs this summer left and David West, who moved into the ranks of the Golden State Warriors, and Boban Marjanovic, who in the meantime stepped up Detroit Pistons. The management of Spurs wasted no time, and they recently hired a capital gain, Pau Gasol, who arrived from the Chicago Bulls, and Dewayne Dedmon from the Orlando Magic, which supposed to represent a significant support to LaMarcus Aldridge.

David Lee can play both on the power forward and on the center position and should represent a solid boost for the Spurs next season. Offensively is very potent player during the period in the Warriors was one of the main offensive options, until the hamstring injury in 2014, when versatile Draymond Green pushed him out of the starting line-up. After recovery he received a significantly smaller role in the Warriors, so last year was traded to the Boston Celtics, where had no any significant role. During the season was waived by the Celtics, after which he signed a short-term contract with the Dallas Mavericks, where he proved that can be very useful.

The former All-Star in the Spurs should have a role similar to those in the Mavs, and it is support from the bench, primarily to Pau Gasol. What David Lee brings to San Antonio are sure points and security in the air. Although not as fast as before, 206 cm tall player still very good opens from pick ‘n’ roll and remarkably keep track of offensive movements. During most of his career, 33-year-old Lee has recorded double-double on average and if the coach properly used him, former player of Warriors and Knicks could be one of the top Sixth Man in the league.

Spurs this summer changed almost entire team, and the front-court compared to the previous season seems improved. However, it takes time to get the players to know each other and work as a team. Having in mind that Greg Popovich is one of the greatest basketball experts, there is no doubt that the Spurs next season will be extremely dangerous rival and one of the title contenders.
