The 2015/2016 season has just ended couple of days ago but Bundesliga clubs are already very active in transfer market as they look to the next season.
Bayern Munich celebrated its fourth straight Bundesliga title on Saturday but Champions League elimination in the semifinals for the second straight year has forced the club to start reinforcing its ranks right away. Pep Guardiola will leave Bayern after next week’s DFB Cup Finals against Dortmund and move to Manchester City so Bavarians have decided to bring in some new faces as a welcome for the new manager Carlo Ancelloti.
As a first reinforcement for the next season, Bayern have announced the signing of 18-year-old Renato Sanches from Benfica on a five-year deal. The talented Portugal international midfielder will join the club this summer. Sanches was considered one of the most sought-for talents in world football after brilliant season in Portugal and was on the radar of Manchester United. However, after completing his medical last week Sanches signed a contract with German giants until 2021. Portuguese media reported that transfer fee is worth 35 million Euros, plus possible bonus payments.
Greater transfer bomb was the news that Bayern will sign German international defender Mats Hummels from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund. Just days after submitting request to be put on transfer list, Hummels confirmed that he would join Bayern on 1 July. Hummels already played for Bavarians where he made his Bundesliga debut before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2008. Hummels came up through Bayern’s youth system and his family still lives in Munich. In eight seasons in Dortmund, Hummels won two Bundesliga titles, the DFB Cup and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2013 where they lost to his new club. Transfer is believed to be worth around 38 million Euros.
Borussia Dortmund will use part of that money to cover a transfer fee for French talent Ousmane Dembele from Stade Rennes FC. The 18-year-old forward, who was selected as Ligue 1 Young Player of the season, will move to his new club in the summer. Dembele is viewed as a perfect replacement for Pierre-Emmerick Aubameyang, Dortmund’s best goalscorer this season and who could possibly leave the club this summer as Manchester United, Liverpool, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain chase him. The deal for Dembele is reportedly worth 15 million Euros, which could rise to whopping 52 million Euros if young Frenchmen covers all incentives in the contract in future years.
Two not so bombastic transfers also completed in the past few days as experienced Brazilian defender Naldo moved to Schalke 04 on a free transfer from Wolfsburg. The 33-year-old centre-back has signed a two-year contract with the “Royal Blues” after spending four seasons in Wolfsburg.
Hamburger SV have announced they have agreed to sign the USA international Bobby Wood from Union Berlin. 23-year-old Wood has signed a four-year contract with HSV. The American striker has scored 17 goals in 30 matches in the second Bundesliga for Union Berlin this season.
