Alba Berlin after elimination in the quarterfinals of the playoffs of the German Bundesliga sacked current coach Sasa Obradovic, who has four previous season from the bench led German club, was announced on the official website. Obradovic during his basketball career also played for Alba in the period from 1994 to 1997, however, after a disappointing elimination is free to choose the new job.
According to a club statement, leaders of Alba have decided not to offer an extension of cooperation to the promising coach. Sasa Obradovic during the period in Berlin club won three trophies of the German Cup and last season was named German Bundesliga Coach of the Year. Marco Baldi, General Manager of the club, said that the decision was made to inject new sports impulse, and that the club is grateful to Obradovic for everything he has done over the past four years at the club. However, elimination in the first round of the playoffs by a total outsider, Fraport Skyliners was crucial in deciding on the status of the coach.
Career of Sasa Obradovic, both playing, as well as coaching is mostly linked with Germany, where as a player played twice, while coaching job began in RheinEnergie Koln, in which he ended his basketball career. After that he patiently built his coaching name in Ukraine and Poland, and in Alba came in 2012. However, in the meantime, Germany got yet another serious basketball team, ambitious Bayern Munich, and along with Brose Baskets, competition has become considerably stronger. What is a fact when the 47-year-old Sasa Obradovic is concerned is that he objectively could not do more with the team that during the previous summer has changed most of its players, and the only true reinforcement was his compatriot Dragan Milosavljevic, who came from the ranks of Partizan Belgrade and from the start imposed himself as the leader of the team.
The club from Berlin during the upcoming period expects a very difficult task when it comes to new coach, and at this point there are no much available experts in Europe. According to the prominent basketball portal Sportando, the first choice of Alba at the moment is the Latvian coach Ainars Bagatskis, who left the bench of the Russian Nizhny Novgorod. However, Alba will have serious competition, given that several other clubs have expressed interest in Bagatskis, primarily Italian Cantu. The only thing at this moment that is certain is that tumultuous summer expects Alba, as well Sasa Obradovic.
